Making Healthcare Accessible

When Muriel Bowser first came into office, plans for a new hospital were on hold. But it became clear that a new hospital was necessary for thousands of residents East of the River and Muriel made it a priority. Along with GW Health, Muriel led the way on a $375M build out for the new hospital at St. Elizabeths East which is slated to open in 2024 and will serve around 15K patients per year. She also helped close DC General—a dilapidated old hospital long past its prime that did not provide a suitable level of care to the community.
